Moong Dal Paratha (Split Green Gram)

Children who don't like to eat pulses in gravy form, this recipe works best for them. This way you can feed them protein in form of paratha along with vegetable. The combination is perfect.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup green moong dal with skin - crushed raw into powder form
1.5 cup wheat flour
1.5-2 cups water
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
a pinch of asafeotida (hing)
2 tsp sesame seeds (til)
1 tsp aniseed (ajwain)
5-6 pcs crushed green chillies
2 tbsp oil
salt to taste

Method:
  1. Grind moong dal in powder form in the mixture jar.
  2. Now, boil water, add moong dal powder and continuously stir the mixture avoiding any lumps.
  3. Once the mixture is smooth, add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, asafeotida, sesame seeds, aniseed, green chillies and stir the mixture continuously. 
  4. Now, add oil and let it boil until the mixture is thick.
  5. Then, add wheat flour and mix well until the mixture becomes smooth, thick and sticky (like khichu)
  6. Remove the mixture in a bowl and let it cool for few minutes.
  7. Once the mixture cools down, place it on a plate and knead the dough with hands. 
  8. Now, with the help of rice flour, roll the dough into paratha/ roti form. 
  9. Place it over a skillet, once it changes the color, flip the paratha by spreading a little oil/butter over the paratha. Flip and repeat on the other side. 
  10. Remove from the skillet after it is well cooked. 
  11. Serve these parathas with curd or curried vegetables.
